Introduction and Disclaimer

Who am I?
My name is Fr. Michael Gossett and I am a Roman Catholic priest of the Diocese of Steubenville, Ohio.

What's the point?
I started this blog during the summer before my senior year of college. I had opinions that I wanted to share and, after having read many Catholic blogs for a while, I wanted to give it a try. Over the years that I've had this blog, my purposes and practices have changed. Now, as a priest, I want this blog to be about sharing my ministry with who ever is interested, especially someone discerning a call to the priesthood. I also like to share what interests me: music, media, science fiction, the outdoors and many other things - all through the lens of my faith.
Finally, I find that blogging is good for me. I like to write and formulate ideas to share with others. This is my forum.

What's in a name?
This blog was originally "The Propaganda Machine." I changed it to "The Night Is Passing!" a few years ago to more clearly reflect what I want to do with the blog. It summarizes my view of the world as well as my obsession with Tolkien. Read the whole story here.

Why should you care?
That is entirely up to you. As a Catholic priest I intend to authentically represent the Church and its faith. Of course, that doesn't really apply to my taste in music, movies or anything else about which good Catholics can disagree.
Please take everything I say here as coming from one imperfect person.
Also, me linking to a site does not imply my support of everything a site says or promotes.
