I can't believe ...

... it's been four years since the eleventh day of September took on a practically universal significance. That was a day that did change the world, but how much have we changed?

In my Intro to Spirituality class we've been talking about how death and suffering is supposed to look at our existence and help us realize that we need God. Now, as our nation faces another major disaster, we need to look at where our lives are going.

I'm not saying that any of this stuff is divine retribution - a theory that is taken seriously by many people, just that we should look at death and see that we are not the center of the universe. It should point us towards heaven.

Nothing - not our country, home, family, money, career, friends, or personal pleasure - should push God from the center of our lives. We were made for Him.

Like St. Augustine said, "
Thou hast made us for thyself, O Lord, and our hearts are restless until they find their rest in thee."
