1. NASA administrator says space shuttle was a mistake
Technical problems aside, the Space Shuttle was just never as cool as a Saturn V rocket. Back then space exploration seemed kind of like setting sail to the other side of the world back when that was a big deal. The Shuttle just seems like a big (dorky looking) plane. If you want the nation to support space travel, it has to grab peoples' attention. Watch Apollo 13. That's what I'm talking about.
In my personal opinion, it would just be cool to go back to the moon. I would enjoy seeing that happen and experiencing a little of what they felt when NASA did it the first time.
2. Flight attendants outraged over Jodie Foster film
Umm ... I guess they have a right to complain about this, but I just don't get it. It's not like they paint all flight attendants as potential terrorists ... but then again, how would I feel about a movie that featured a child abusing priest? I would probably complain about Hollywood bias. Not that there are tons of movies that attack flight attendants as terrorists.
It's interesting. Do the movies we watch really play that much of a role in forming our preconceptions about people? I hope that people don't think of the Catholic Church the way that it is presented in the media in general. There are a few positive examples of priests and the Church in general in film/TV/etc.(one recent one, in my opinion, is The Exorcism of Emily Rose), but the dominant image is one of an outdated organization staffed by old men with no relevant connection to the real world.
We should think about what we're taking in.
