Satan Goes to the Movies

What Happened to Emily? The Exorcism of Emily Rose (on Godspy)

I saw this movie last night. Yes, it was scary. I would say, very scary. And that was why I liked it.
It didn't have all of the sensationalistic aspects of most movies in the demonic stuff genre (The Exorcist, etc.). Most movies about posession tend to make the whole story into a typical horror movie where the things that scare you are shocking, usually grotesque, images ... blood, guts and gore. The Exorcism of Emily Rose was better than most movies in its genre because it showed more of the reality of posession and exorcism.

First, that these sort of things can happen.
Second, the Church doesn't just go around exorcising everyone that says they're posessed. It is a last resort. Two very good books on the subject that I recommend (if you don't mind getting a little freaked out) are An Exorcist Tells His Story and An Exorcist: More Stories by Fr. Gabriele Amorth, the chief exorcist of Rome. They present a first-hand, extremely objective account, of the work he does.

Go see the movie ... just watch Bambi afterwards.
