Blink and you missed it ...

For whatever it's worth, I enjoyed the music of Blink 182. Yes, they were frequently immature and many of their songs were repetitive, but they played some good music. It was catchy, fun, and many times creative. From my experience I would say that their songs are a lot of fun to play.

Sadly, however, it seems that they've broken up for good and not on good terms. Tom DeLonge (former Blink guitar player) has a new band called Angels and Airwaves that looks like it has possibilities. From what I've read (the wikipedia article, article from their site) it sounds ambitious (maybe a little pretentious). You used to be able to download an early version of one of their songs, "The Adventure" on purevolume but it appears to be gone now. It sounds sort of like Blink's last album crossed with Boxcar Racer. That means good. Also, the band is apparently releasing a movie with their album. Wow.

The other two members of Blink, Mark Hoppus (bass) and Travis Barker (amazing drummer) are now in Plus-44 with singer/guitar player Carol Heller. You can download their new song "No It Isn't" here. It's a pretty cool song, but I have to note that the first line (Please understand/This isn't just goodbye/This is "I can't stand you") is one of the saddest things I've ever heard in a song.

It's too bad that Blink is most likely done, but these new projects have some potential.

Blink182 has always been somewhat of a guilty pleasure of mine, and even of they are often immature or outright nasty, they have mastered the art of the catchy punk song, and most of their older stuff at least reminds me good times I had while their sutff was riding the top of the charts.

I'll be keeping out an eye for the new groups.

And for random trivia: Do you know where Travis Barker got his start?

With....the Aquabats, probably the weirdest group of musicians to ever pen a song! He was the drummer for the Aquabats, who were opening on a Blink182 tour, and when the Blink drummer got angry about something, they asked Barker to fill in, and then...well, essentially, he sold out his ska-core comrades, and started drumming full time for blink182.

Strange, eh?

The Aquabats are kind of scary ... but very cool and original from what I've heard. I LOVE the song "Pool Party" which you can get on purevolume:
