I'm at home. Actually at the FUS library.
Anyway, I wanted to encourage all of you to be strong in the face of DaVinci Code peer pressure. People - possibly your friends - will say, "It's just a movie. You should see it so you know how to discuss it."
LIES!
Don't pay to have your faith mocked! Be strong. We stand together!

I probably won't see it but I will read it. It seems interesting, and I think it's safe in the hands of people who are not easily swayed by BS and other names for lies.
Although I have heard that it's a well-written book, that is if you know the difference between fact and crap.
Oh, good heavens, Chris, no! Anybody who thinks the book is well-written should STOP READING AT A THIRD GRADE LEVEL!
Seriously.
Augh.
*bemoans the American culture*
And if one has even elementary knowledge of what is fact or crap, the book is a pit of misery, because you just spend the WHOLE thing saying to yourself, "Hey...this is crap. Theologically, artistically, stylistically, historically, and in several other ways."
The movie, on the other hand, does look like it will be well made. All-star cast, stellar director, and some impressive cinematography, from the look of things.
Not that it actually will improve the story, or anything. But if I'm going to be insulted as a Catholic, as somebody who has an *extremely* basic idea about art, history, art history, and as somebody who has half a brain, at least with the movie, I'll be insulted in a somewhat impressive way, even if the insults are just as dumb.
Ahem.
Sort of a tangent, there. Dunno if you caught any of that.
Overall, though, yeah. Don't see the flick opening weekend, at least. If you do want to see it (Specifcally for the reason Mike stated: You want to be able to actually talk about it intelligently.) then go see it at least a week after its release. Its opening weekend that really matters in regard to the studio deciding that this was a success or failure.
NO! The book is not well written. I read it over one of my fraternity brother's shoulders on the way to St. Louis and it was awful. Definitely read it ... just so you know what you're talking about, but, seriously, it's idiotic.
It has fake dialogue, ridiculously short chapters that all end with cliff-hangers, and superficial characters.
If you want to read it ... borrow it. Don't pay for this crap.

Hmm... sounds like a Nancy Drew. Ha!
