... there haven't been a whole lot of posts on The Propaganda Machine lately. I know.
I do take pictures fairly often, but whenever I'm in the mood to write something, it's usually during the day and I don't update this until the nighttime. However, I am still around and still living in Marietta on my summer assignment.
Things are good here. I get to serve at mass every day as well as watch Msgr. Campbell and Fr. Mark in action - on communion calls, sick calls, and just hanging around the rectory.
The biggest challenges I face are similiar to what it's like at the seminary ... but I have fewer excuses because I don't have any classes. I really want to be consistent with a daily hour of prayer before the Eucharist and staying faithful to praying the Liturgy of the Hours. It doesn't seem like a lot when I think about it, but I often find myself falling short of these goals.
I think the summer is a great time for any student to really look at where we are in our lives. School is often so busy that we just try to survive each semester; we fail to examine the big picture. Even with a summer job, our schedules are a little less hectic with more time for reflection and relaxation. Put it to good use! School will be starting again before we know it.
Pray for me as I pray for you.

You're very right. The gift of time is not something to be tossed around. My counselor at Boys State read us stories or poems every night that really really made you think. One of them isn't a poem or a story but more like a reflection:
"Imagine there is a bank that credits your account each morning with $86,400. It carries over no balance from day to day. Every evening deletes whatever part of the balance you failed to use during the day.
What would you do?
Draw out every cent, of course!!
Each of us has a bank; its name is TIME.
Every morning, it credits you with 86,400 seconds. Every night it writes off, as lost, whatever of this you have to invest to good purpose.
It carries over no balance, allows no overdraft.
Each day it opens a new account for you.
Each night it burns the remains of the day.
IF you fail to use the day's deposits, the loss is yours.
There is no going back.
There is no drawing against the "tomorrow".
You must live in the present on today's deposits.
Invest it so as to get from it hte utmost in health, happiness, and success!
The clock is running; make the most of today.
To realize the value of ONE YEAR
ask a student who failed a grade.
ONE MONTH
ask a mother of a premature baby.
ONE WEEK
ask the editor of a newspaper.
ONE HOUR
ask the lovers who are waiting to meet.
ONE MINUTE
ask the person who just missed a train.
ONE SECOND
ask the person who just avoided an accident.
ONE MILLISECOND
ask the person who just won a Silver Medal in the Olympics.
Yesterday is history
Tomorrow is a mystery
Today is a gift
That's why it's called the PRESENT."

I really liked it. I try to keep that in my head every day, especially now that I do have all this extra free time that I'm not used to having.
