P.J. O'Rourke ...

... has some high-quality quotes:

A hat should be taken off when you greet a lady and left off for the rest of your life. Nothing looks more stupid than a hat.

Always read something that will make you look good if you die in the middle of it.

Anyway, no drug, not even alcohol, causes the fundamental ills of society. If we're looking for the source of our troubles, we shouldn't test people for drugs, we should test them for stupidity, ignorance, greed and love of power.

I like to think of my behavior in the sixties as a "learning experience." Then again, I like to think of anything stupid I've done as a "learning experience." It makes me feel less stupid.

Never fight an inanimate object.

Dude, I'm taking great measures while on the road to tell you to go PureVolume or MySpace (in the same sense that one Googles) a band called Long Shot Hero. It's a ska band that is new, good, and still writing music, and thus worthy of the notice.

I heard a recording of a live show, and was mucho impresssed.

*sigh*

I miss ska.

PS: And so this seems at least vaguely on topic, I really stand with that dying while reading something worthy of your death. It has long been a secret fear of mine that I'd kick the bucket while flipping through People Magazine at the grocery store, or while I was playing Madden 2003 or something offensively boring like that. I should start carrying around a copy of the Canterbury Tales, or some Russian epic, or at the very least some Wodehouse in case I feel like death is sneaking up on me. I'll just whip that sucker out and be remembered as I would prefer.
