Give it a chance.

It really bothers me when people stereotype a style of music or literature or, even worse, people and refuse to acknowledge that they me be wrong or even give them a chance. Every band/song, every book, every movie, and every person is different. While it's more dangerous to stereotype people, when you stereotype art, it only limits you.

For example, I had heard about Sufjan Stevens for a long time, and had even heard one of his CD's once (and liked it). However, I heard about him so much that I kind of refused to give him a chance. I assumed his music was overly artsy (and therefore, lame) and found myself making fun of him sometimes.

However, I listened to his Illinois album today and enjoyed it. It just goes to show us that we don't know everything.

Oh geez ... I need to take my own advice and watch what I say, though I wasn't being particularly insulting to his music when I called him that, just trying to mess with one of my friends who likes him.

Haha. Enjoy.
