backpacked, back, packed and unpacked

I have been busy and away from a computer.

The backpacking trip was intense, as expected. I've never done anything more physically challenging in my life. Besides the fact that I was carrying a big, heavy backpack, we climbed rocky trails, crossed streams and lived outside. There was a lot of rain, and the trails were pretty wet, so we were pretty wet for a good amount of the trip.
The place really was the wilderness. There was nothing out there and we only saw a few people the whole time.
I'm really glad that I went. It gave me a real sense of accomplishment.
A couple highlights for me were the times we had Mass in our camp. The first time was under a blue tarp while it rained outside. We were all crammed in there, so I was right next to the altar, serving as deacon. The second time was on a rock by our camp fire. It was very powerful to be there with Jesus out in the wilderness.

Once I came back I spent a lot of time relaxing/recovering at home. On Sunday, I was the deacon at vespers for the 125th anniversary of a local parish. There was an organ recital afterwards.
Then came the final episode of LOST and the party that went with it.

My thoughts on the finale: It was a great Catholic ending. I loved that the makers of the show kept me surprised and did what they said they were going to do: tell the story of those characters. The story of the Island goes on, and it retains the mystery that made it so cool.

On Monday, I spent some time in the cathedral in Pittsburgh while my brother had a meeting.

Yesterday, we took my brother back to his school and then my sister and I got The Fantastic Mr. Fox. Good movie.

Finally, today. After Mass and some packing, I headed down here to St. Ambrose for my summer assignment. I'm settled into my room, now.

I do have internet access, so I will try to keep you all updated.
