1. "Rebuild my Church" - On the retirement of Fr. Mike Scanlan. And this bit is priceless (and true):
The Most Reverend R. Daniel Conlon, bishop of Steubenville, once jokingly “thanked” Father Mike that whenever he travels he has to correct people that he is bishop of an entire diocese, not just the University. Now he says, “It is hard to imagine Steubenville without Father Michael Scanlan.”

For people expecting some kind of sci-fi resolution, this ending was a shock. Faith, it turns out, is just as real as science, and people who suffer in this life can find happiness in the next. The ending was heart-breaking yet hopeful, leaving an indelible impression that will stay with me forever.

Did "Lost" do everything perfectly over its six season run? No. What TV series has? But it succeeded far more than it failed. Lindelof and Cuse told a transcendent story about real people dealing with temporal, moral, and spiritual struggles. Those are the kinds of stories that last. Those are the kinds of stories that will continue to matter.

3. Denison Witmer has a new album out today. Celebrate with a free download of his cover of Bob Marley's "Three Little Birds."

4. A nice video of The Civil Wars.

5. George Weigel slams critics of John Paul II's fast track to sainthood

6. Yeah! Bishop Paprocki (of Springfield, Illinois) authorizes St. Michael Prayer after Masses

Prayer and the sacraments are an essential part of what Saint Paul called the "armor of God" in his letter to the Ephesians. The Saint Michael prayer can help us "stand against the deceits of the devil" (Ephesians 6:11) by "taking the shield of faith" (Ephesians 6:16). God permits us to be tempted by the devil but gives us the grace to resist him through prayer in our daily lives. We can and should say the prayer to Saint Michael the Archangel at church with the assembly or on our own during the day for spiritual protection for ourselves and for others.
