Here's why:
- Our diocese has a strange shape, so we have two Chrism Masses in two of my favorite places.
- It's always good to get together with the priests of the diocese. When you're a seminarian, it helps you get to know them. As a priest, I don't see many of them all that often.
- I've lived in several different parts of the diocese, so I know people from many different parishes. It's amazing to see them all together in one church.
- Since we have no bishop, one of our retired bishops was the celebrant this year - and he did a fantastic job. He is model to me of pouring yourself out for the Lord, even after your "duties" are fulfilled. And he preached a fiery homily.
- It's an opportunity to spend a little time with our seminarians.
- Seeing the diocese as a community, united with the bishop and the priests in the Eucharist.
