The town where my parish is located sits right next to the interstate. As you would expect, there is a whole collection of fast food places right off the highway where various tour groups stop and eat on their way to wherever they are going.
I am always curious when I see a charter bus parked in one of these lots. Where are these people coming from? Where are they going?
The whole idea of a bus trip involves traveling through lots of places on your way - places that aren't really your destination. In a way, they're only scenery, but that's part of your journey as well.
Seeing those people milling around their bus, finishing dinner and stretching their legs makes me think about the connections we have with other people - even strangers.
They are just making a brief stop in the place where I live, but it's become part of their journey, a part of the story they'll tell. Inside jokes get started in places like that. Pictures are taken.
Though we may never speak or really meet, we're all part of this larger journey.

This was a very interesting post and I enjoyed reading it. My mind works similarly in that I think of the same instances. Last year, my family reunion was held in Colorado which was common meeting ground for all of us. We got a bus quote for a good price and decided to take that down so we could all spend more time together. While there, we ran into a few people I knew I would never see again and never have but I still remember their names and faces. It's really funny where life takes you and the people you meet.
Thank you for sharing and allowing me to share as well!
