NEWS

I'd thought I'd try something new. Over the years I've looked for ways to make my blogging more regular - it used to be something I'd do every day and now it is almost exclusively my Sunday homily.

So, here's a first attempt at a kind of "newsletter" format with a few features. They may change as I figure it out ...

LINKS

A gigantic collection of Lord of the Rings imagery, much of it hilarious.

The Geography of Illinoise: a geographic interpretation of musician Sufjan Stevens' albums Illinois (2005) and The Avalanche (2006)

The A.V. Club's "Undercover" Series - A whole lot of interesting covers, including The Polyphonic Spree playing Neil Young, Punch Brothers playing The Cars, and They Might Be Giants playing Chumbawumba.

A Nice Cup of Tea by George Orwell - Orwell's 11 points for the perfect cup of tea.

SONG OF THE WEEK

QUOTED
"One who believes may not be presumptuous; on the contrary, truth leads to humility, since believers know that, rather than ourselves possessing truth truth, it is truth which embraces and possesses us."

Pope Francis, Lumen Fidei #34

LATELY

On Friday I had the chance to catch the opening session of Franciscan University's Defending the Faith conference. There were great talks by Dr. Ralph Martin and Dr. Ed Sri, but the highlight for me was getting the chance to meet blogger and author Mark Shea. I've been following him and his blog, Catholic And Enjoying It!, since college. It was his writing that made me want to start a blog and he inspired me to get deeper into my faith. It was very cool to say hello and thank him for his work.
