Bad sign.

In troubled times, vasectomies snip and prosper

To me, this says that we have lost hope in many things. Feeling that, because the economy is bad, it is not worth it to bring a new life into the world means that we don't have hope in anything beyond the material. It also means that, if this attitude becomes widespread (if it hasn't already), we are letting ourselves go extinct.

I'm sure Pope Benedict would have something to say about this.
