Duh ...

Vatican says firm 'no' to married priests

The estimated 250 bishops who gathered for the three-week Synod of Bishops voted behind closed doors on the recommendations, which disappointed some church reform groups by hewing closely to church teaching.

So ... it's shocking that the bishops of the Church reaffirmed what the Church teaches? Why is that disappointing. To me, it's encouraging and shows me, once again, that the Holy Spirit guides the Church even today.

I know you didn't ask me but one reason would be that if a priest married, he would have to balance his married life, plus raising a family and still be expected to tend to his parish. Mike is prob better at explaing this stuff.

It is a custom or discipline of the Roman Catholic Church that priests can't get married. That means it is not something that will never change or is central to the faith, but it is kept because it is a good thing. Among many reasons that I might not even know of, priest is supposed to act as Christ for the people he ministers to so he is technically married to the Church because the Church is the Bride of Christ. He devotes himself to her. Also, like silverstride said, I can't imagine having a priest do what he has to do and support a family. A priest doesn't get paid like a regular job. Would the people of the church have to give money to support his family? Here's one post on it:
