Hollywood pulls through ...

After disappointments from The Chronicles of Narnia, King Kong, V for Vendetta, Ultraviolet, and X-Men 3 ... I finally saw a movie that turned out to be better than I thought it would be.

Ladies and gentlemen, I give you ... SUPERMAN RETURNS.

I loved it for too many reasons to explain (and I'm tired), but here are a few:

-The humor was just corny enough to show that they didn't take themselves too seriously.

One funny moment: Louis Lane sees a bunch of wigs on Lex Luthor's boat and starts to leave, only to run right into him.

Louis: Lex Luthor!
Lex (Wearing a bath robe and brushing his teeth): Louis Lane?

-The flying was amazing. It looked real ... or at least what it would look like if someone could fly.

-Superman was just a genuinely good guy and the actor who played him pulled it off beautifully. Even though we find out that Superman is the father of Louis's son outside of marriage, they don't end the movie by having the two run off without her husband. The family stays together and Superman honors that. He has real human issues, but he is truly a heroic character. He does the right thing simply because it is the right thing.

Mainly, I thought the movie gave Superman a more human feel while at the same time making him even more mythological and iconic. Yeah, I said "mythological and iconic." In the same sentence, nonetheless.

Go see it. Now.

P.S.
There was a preview for Spiderman 3 before the movie. Venom is in it. Oh man. Also, a movie called The Nativity Story is coming out this Christmas. Bad title ... hopefully it truns out ok.

P.P.S.
Summer movies that you can still look forward to: Pirates of the Carribean 2 and Lady in the Water.

Very true, though I doubt the movie will end that way.
