I'll take a Fourth of July.

Independence Day always had a sense of "little kid magic" for me, kind of like Star Wars and playing in the "woods" behind my house. The reason for this is simple: fireworks.

I have two favorite 4th of July memories, one from when I was younger and one from more recently:

1. Sitting in front of my house watching Steubenville's fireworks, the 1812 Overture blaring on the record player, and my dad explaining how the Russians beat Napoleon. That's priceless.

2. Going to the park in Gabe's town the night before we went camping in Michigan and hearing the greatest description of fireworks, ever, from some kid in front of us: "That's merchandise!"

P.S.
"Courtesy of the Red, White And Blue" by Toby Keith is THE absolutely worst song ... ever.

Aw, come on. "Courtesy of the Red, White, and Blue" is charming in it's ridiculousness. And in the way it makes the average American look like furious, drunken cretin.

Heh...I have an inexplicable soft spot for country anyhow. I apologize.

Gag. May God deliver you of that affliction.
