I put a video on YouTube, featuring Jon and I stenciling his skateboard with his favorite Latin word, "quid." We were relaxing in the afternoon after class and had a good time doing it. Within a day, someone had commented on my video saying "Poor church with seminarians like that ..."
I was kind of speechless. I removed the video because I hate causing people to think bad things about seminarians or the Church, but it got me thinking: What do people think we do all day?
So, here are just a few facts:
- Seminarians do pray and study quite a bit, but those aren't the only things we do.
- Seminarians watch TV and movies, play video games, and listen to music.
- Seminarians enjoy hanging out and relaxing, just like everyone else.
- Seminarians play pranks on each other from time to time.
- Seminarians are people too.
Sorry if this is preaching to the choir, but I had to vent somehow. It frustrates me to no end when people assume that they know what seminary is and what seminarians should be like. Believe me, we are all in here for serious reasons; but we are also all humans who need friends and relaxation from time to time.

Hear hear, Mike!
When I first saw it, I though "Gosh, they're just like normal guys". And then it struck me, yes, you are just like normal guys, save that you've been called to a different vocation.
I thought it was quite cool, except I can't see the attraction for quid. I would chose a different Latin word.
I think "quid" was chosen because of its absurdity ... I mean, nothing in English comes close to "quid" or its cousin "quidcumque."
