I have a conflicted relationship with this franchise. I always liked the whole Transformers idea when I was younger and enjoyed the first film in that it made robots who changed into cars pretty realistic. On the other hand, the acting, the writing and the story ... eh.
I saw the second movie with some friends and was fairly unimpressed.
So, why did I see this third film with a confusing title (dark what of the moon?)?
Well, the idea is an interesting one. It has elements that I love in a story: secret history, a secret war, alien robots. And all that could have played out into a great movie if it weren't for the filmakers' tendency to overdo everything. It's so loud, so fast and so over the top that I can't take it seriously.
"But it's not a serious movie!" you reply, "You're not supposed to take it seriously!"
Maybe that's my problem: I like movies with some sort of message, at least an inkling of one. I'm sorry, but Optimus Prime spouting meaningless statements just doesn't do it for me.
